I created a book cover for the novel "DMB 91" written by Sergei Pilaskach and published by the Galiafy Publishing House. The book tells about compulsory military service in the Army during the disintegration of the USSR, about survival and coming back home. The book cover was inspired by a special soldiers' creative activity that was called discharge album. It is a scrapbook made at the period of less than 90 days before the enlistment ends, and includes drawings, photos, army fellows' wishes. Through the contrast of black cover and naive, kitschy elements I wanted to convey the tragedy of the novel.
